    Composer Biography

    Shri Sriram is a Composer / Musician / Producer, initially trained on Tablas before developing a unique style of playing his self-made fretless bass. He was a key member of the Asian Underground scene with Outcaste Records, developing his groundbreaking electro-acoustic sound with Badmarsh&Shri.

    Shri has composed and written for theatre, dance and Indian feature films, his music has been placed on adverts like British Petroleum & Pantene Pro-V, TV shows like CSI & Top Gear amongst many others. He has featured live at Glastonbury Festival, Jools Holland, Montreux & London Jazz Festivals and has remixed tracks for Dela Soul, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Kronos Quartet & Asha Bhosle, to name a few.

    More recently he has written the promo tune for Ang Lee’s – Life of Pi. Some of his collaborations include Norwegian keyboardist Bugge Wesseltoft, Double Bass legend Arild Andersen. He has also composed for a new Bollywood movie for Yashraj films called Bank Chor in addition to his cutting-edge new Brass band project called Just A Vibration.

    About this work

    This is a project that was about bringing Indian melodies and classical concepts to Brass band. The line-up features brass band, sitar, bass, drums, Indian flute and Indian tabla vocalisation.

    This was Sriram’s first time at composing for brass band and they have been lauded for bringing in a very fresh perspective to the UK brass scene, drawing from Indian classical tabla, sitar and drone instruments, jazz, dub-step, club music, ambient and drum’n’bass.

    Commissioned by Drum The Bass and developed and recorded with Hammonds Saltaire Brass band with conductor Morgan Griffiths it received its UK premiere on 5 September 2015. Performed by Shri and Skelmanthorpe Brass Band at Freedom Festival in Hull 2015.
